Before the release of Sin City, the director Quentin Tarantino and star Samuel L. Jackson were compared to James Bond and Pulp Fiction due to their intimidating appearances and super action sequences. They are both in their thirties but the look and super action sequences were unique to each of them. These comparisons are not baseless considering the excellent dialogue and good performances in the movie. However, the comparisons are not as substantial when the comparison is to the plot line or the characters.
The storyline of the film is mainly presented through monologues by Samuel L. Jackson. These dialogue scenes appear in different order and are not connected in any way. The story of the film is so unique that some people who saw the movie had trouble finding what was happening.
This movie is a retelling of the early years of famous actor Samuel L. Jackson's life. He was found at a bus stop after a night on the town with fellow actor, Jamie Foxx. His manager was fed up with him and fired him.
This forced him to find his own way to continue his acting career and he did by performing in numerous small movies that were released during his teens. He found a job at a gas station after losing his previous job at the same place. Here, he met his long time love, Susan. She was just nineteen years old at that time and was trying to start her own life.
They used to talk about their future and much later she would even move to Texas with him. While doing this, they fell in love and married. Unfortunately, due to Jackson's bad luck in life, he lost his wife and a few months later, she gave birth to a son.
The movie soon becomes clear because they were often apart. It is obvious that Jackson was already strong-willed as he has no qualms about taking on many roles. He even managed to convince the then director of the movie to let him appear in the film.
The storyline of the entire movie is very clever and it only leads to more questions and unanswered questions. This is very common with modern cinema, where there is more focus on what happens rather than what happened. In fact, the movie does end with an extremely satisfactory ending for the viewers.
The movie has many elements that make it entertaining to watch especially with those who love the martial arts genre. There are many action sequences, heist sequences, blood spatter and some gruesome deaths that are part of the action genre. To finish with the first point, Sin City is definitely a must see for any action fan as it contains all the elements necessary to make a good movie.
